Paul Quinn Volleyball Falls to William Woods in Straight Sets
Marshall, Missouri – August 29, 2025 The Paul Quinn College volleyball team opened its 2025 campaign on Friday morning against William Woods (MO), battling through competitive stretches but ultimately falling in straight sets (14–25, 22–25, 19–25).
Strong Start from William Woods
William Woods established its attack early, hitting .419 in the opening set and cruising to a 25–14 win. The Owls' frontline was led by Luciana Paiva Pereira, who finished with a match-high 14 kills on an efficient .391 hitting percentage.
Paul Quinn struggled to find rhythm offensively in the first frame, tallying nine errors that kept them from sustaining long rallies.
Tigers Push Back in the Second Set
The Tigers responded in the second set with sharper play, posting 10 kills and reducing errors to stay close throughout. Carrie Weston and Jamya Fields provided the offensive spark, with Weston finishing with nine kills on the day and Fields adding nine kills at an impressive .615 clip.
Despite their surge, William Woods pulled away late behind kills from Ivi Marcolino (12 kills, .235) and Roberta Carlos de Silva (11 kills, .241), closing out the set 25–22.
Closing Effort
Paul Quinn continued to fight in the third set, improving their hitting percentage to .108. Jayden Jones chipped in four kills, while Makaila Piggee added three kills and contributed at the net with three blocks. The Tigers trailed just 19–18 late before William Woods put together a decisive run to claim the match.
