Paul Quinn Women Rally Past SUNO Behind Taylor’s All-Around Gem
NEW ORLEANS — Paul Quinn College erased a double-digit first-half deficit and stormed back behind a dominant second-half surge to defeat Southern University at New Orleans 69–67 on Saturday afternoon at the SUNO Gym.
Guard Cierra Taylor delivered the game's standout performance, filling the stat sheet with 22 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds while playing 39 minutes. Taylor went 8-for-19 from the field and 6-for-7 from the free-throw line, controlling the tempo and repeatedly generating offense for a Tigers team that struggled early.
Paul Quinn (7–2, 3–1) shot just 23.5 percent in the first quarter and trailed 19–9. The Tigers chipped away in the second, then flipped the momentum completely out of halftime, posting a 23-point third quarter to cut into SUNO's lead and eventually seize control.
Senior guard Canai McPherson provided a major lift off the bench, scoring 18 points, including two 3-pointers, while adding three steals. Forward Zaire Brown nearly notched her second straight double-double in conference play, finishing with 11 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
Paul Quinn's interior effort was equally critical. Forward Nyah Morgan totaled eight points and nine rebounds, including six offensive boards that helped the Tigers dominate second-chance opportunities. Starting forward Tyla Roberts also grabbed nine rebounds, contributing to a 52–63 rebounding advantage.
SUNO (6–3, 1–2) was led by Tierra Sylvas, who recorded a powerful 20-point, 15-rebound double-double. Jordan Harris added 15 points and seven assists, but the Knights shot just 29.5 percent from the field and only 15.8 percent in the fourth quarter as Paul Quinn closed the game on a decisive run.
The Tigers held SUNO to eight points in the final frame, completing the comeback with defensive pressure that produced 11 steals and key stops in the final minutes.
Paul Quinn continues its strong early-season play and returns home next week, looking to build on back-to-back road wins in New Orleans.
