Women's Soccer Shuts Out North American University 1-0
Dallas, TX (August 30, 2025) – The Paul Quinn College women’s soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over North American University on Friday evening at their home field on Simpson Stuart Road. The Tigers earned their first win of the season behind a composed defensive effort, and a well-executed second-half set piece.
Second-Half Surge Makes the Difference
After a quiet first half with few clear chances, Paul Quinn found the breakthrough in the 59th minute. Sophomore forward Cora Hurst buried the game's lone goal with a clinical finish off a perfectly placed corner kick assist from Mia Hawkins. The set piece, delivered with precision, sliced through the North American defense, and Hurst made no mistake with her effort from close range.
The goal energized the home team and proved to be the turning point in what had been a closely contested match.
Defensive Discipline Key for Paul Quinn
Led by goalkeeper Fernanda Rosas, the Paul Quinn defense stood tall throughout the match. Rosas recorded five saves, including several key stops in the second half as North American pushed for an equalizer. The backline, anchored by Jackie Aguilar, Ashley Rosete, and Simara Barton, maintained their shape and composure under pressure.
Rosas earned the win in goal, playing the full 90 minutes without conceding.
North American Falls Just Short Despite Late Pressure
North American outshot Paul Quinn 7-5, with Genevieve Colon and Alyssa Garcia leading the offensive push, registering a combined five shots and three on target. Midfielder Leslie Moreno also contributed with one shot on goal, but the visitors couldn't find the back of the net.
Goalkeeper Arely Sarabia put in a solid shift with five saves, but ultimately was beaten once on the set piece that decided the match.
