Paul Quinn Advance to Semi-Finals in USCAA Tournament
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Paul Quinn Tigers women's basketball pulled away in the second half to defeat The Apprentice School 79–61 on Tuesday in the opening round of the USCAA Women's Basketball National Championship.
Canai McPherson scored 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting to lead Paul Quinn (16-10), while Zaire Brown added 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for a double-double. Jamie Walker finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Tamia Dolls chipped in 14 points, including two 3-pointers.
Paul Quinn led 34–26 at halftime before opening the third quarter with a strong run. The Tigers shot nearly 53% in the period and outscored Apprentice 22–14 to extend the lead to 56–40 entering the fourth.
The Builders (14-11) closed within 13 late in the final quarter but could not get closer as Paul Quinn maintained control down the stretch.
Cornasia Lamberson led the Apprentice with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Dajanelle Linton-Robinson added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Siara Lundy scored 10 points off the bench.
Paul Quinn outrebounded Apprentice 42–32 and scored 44 points in the paint. The Tigers also forced 25 turnovers, converting them into 22 points.
The victory advances Paul Quinn to the next round of the USCAA national tournament later this week in Buffalo.
