Brown, Dolls Lead Paul Quinn Women Past Stillman in Second-Half Surge
DALLAS — Zaire Brown recorded a dominant double-double and Tamia Dolls delivered timely scoring as Paul Quinn College rallied in the second half to defeat Stillman 73-64 on Thursday evening at the Health and Wellness Center.
Paul Quinn (14-7, 8-2) overcame a slow start and a nine-point first-quarter deficit by controlling the glass and taking over offensively after halftime, outscoring Stillman 46-27 in the final two periods.
Stillman (11-10, 7-4) set the early tone behind Jaida Minter, who scored a game-high 17 points with five assists and five steals, helping the visitors build a 22-13 lead after one quarter. The Tigers struggled offensively early, shooting under 30 percent through the opening half.
The momentum shifted in the third quarter as Paul Quinn tightened its defense and began to find rhythm offensively. The Tigers shot 53.8 percent in both the third and fourth quarters, turning defensive stops into transition opportunities.
Brown anchored the turnaround with a commanding performance inside. The senior forward finished with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, including 11 defensive boards, while adding two blocks. Her presence on the glass helped Paul Quinn win the rebounding battle 45-34 and limit Stillman's second chances late in the game.
Dolls provided the offensive spark on the perimeter, scoring a game-high 19 points while knocking down four 3-pointers. Her scoring helped ignite a decisive fourth-quarter run in which Paul Quinn poured in 29 points to pull away.
Canai McPherson added 18 points, attacking the rim and converting six free throws, while Tyreshia Sessions delivered a strong effort off the bench with 17 points, nine rebounds and six steals, giving the Tigers energy on both ends of the floor.
Paul Quinn's defense proved pivotal down the stretch, forcing turnovers and holding Stillman to 35.3 percent shooting in the fourth quarter. The Tigers also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 23 of 33 attempts to secure the comeback victory.
Jordan Harris added 12 points for Stillman, while Danyjhia Williams contributed eight points and six assists.
With the win, Paul Quinn strengthened its position near the top of the conference standings and continued to showcase its depth and resilience heading into the final stretch of the season.
