Brown’s Double-Double Paces Paul Quinn Past Rust, 60-56
DALLAS — Zaire Brown delivered a dominant all-around performance to lead Paul Quinn College to a 60-56 victory over Rust (Miss.) on Tuesday evening as the Tigers remained unbeaten in conference play.
Brown, the Tigers' outstanding player of the game, finished with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds to record a double-double for Paul Quinn (9-3, 4-0). She also added three blocks, providing a strong defensive presence in the paint during key stretches.
Paul Quinn jumped out to an early lead behind efficient shooting, taking a 20-11 advantage after the first quarter. The Tigers extended the margin to 39-28 at halftime before Rust rallied in the second half. Rust closed within four late in the fourth quarter, but Paul Quinn made timely defensive stops to secure the win.
Canai McPherson added 13 points and three assists for the Tigers, while Nyah Morgan came off the bench to post 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tyla Roberts chipped in seven points and three assists, and Cierra Taylor contributed eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
Rust (7-8, 3-1) was led by Talyia Cawthon with 14 points and Patsy Johnson with 11 points and eight assists. Halei Keyes added 12 points off the bench, and Unique Miller grabbed 10 rebounds.
Paul Quinn shot 38.1 percent from the field (24 of 63) and outrebounded Rust 46-49 while forcing 22 turnovers. Rust shot 27.5 percent overall and just 10.7 percent from 3-point range (3 of 28).
With the victory, Paul Quinn extended its winning streak and continued to set the pace in conference play as the Tigers move deeper into their league schedule.
