Paul Quinn Comes Up Short in One-Point Thriller Against UNT Dallas, 74–73
Dallas, Texas (Nov. 12, 2025) — Paul Quinn College fell just one point shy in a heart-stopping finish Wednesday night, dropping a 74–73 decision to UNT Dallas at the Tiger Den in Dallas.
Despite a sluggish start that saw the Tigers trail 24–8 after the first quarter, Paul Quinn stormed back in the second behind strong offensive rebounding and a burst from guard Canai McPherson, who led all scorers with 26 points. The Tigers outscored UNT Dallas 28–8 in the second period to take a 36–32 halftime lead.
UNT Dallas (1–0) found its rhythm again in the third quarter, shooting 52.6% from the field and scoring 27 points to retake control. The Lions leaned on De'Asia Johnson, who poured in 20 points with two 3-pointers, and Ke'Liyah Anderson, who added 10 points and went 8-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Paul Quinn (0–1) stayed within striking distance down the stretch but struggled at the line, converting just 66.7% of its free throws compared to UNT Dallas' 90%. McPherson's late drive to the basket cut the deficit to one with under 10 seconds remaining, but the Tigers were unable to convert on their final possession after a UNT Dallas defensive stop sealed the win.
Forward Zaire Brown posted a double-double for Paul Quinn with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyla Roberts and Nyah Morgan added 10 points each off the bench.
For UNT Dallas, Kaylyn Minor and Jade Myles each scored 12 points, while Shandrea Yeldell contributed 10 points and seven assists, helping the Lions withstand Paul Quinn's physical inside play and 52–41 rebounding advantage.
Paul Quinn will look to regroup when it continues its home stand next week, while UNT Dallas opens the season on a high note, escaping with a narrow road victory in the crosstown matchup.
