Ballard’s 19 Not Enough as Tougaloo Pulls Away from Paul Quinn, 81-75
DALLAS — Rashod Ballard delivered a strong offensive performance with 19 points, but Paul Quinn could not hold off a late surge by Tougaloo (Miss.) in an 81-75 loss Saturday afternoon at the Health and Wellness Center.
Paul Quinn (4-6, 0-2) built a slim halftime lead before Tougaloo (4-6, 2-1) outscored the Tigers 45-36 in the second half to secure the road victory.
Ballard, Paul Quinn's outstanding player of the game, finished with a team-high 19 points on 5-of-13 shooting, knocked down three 3-pointers and was perfect at the free-throw line (6 of 6). He added five assists and played all 40 minutes, providing steady production on both ends of the floor.
John Harrison added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Tigers, while Cameron McMurray chipped in 17 points off the bench. Mekhi Johnson contributed nine points and five rebounds, and Isaiah McCallum scored six points with two rebounds.
Tougaloo was led by Antonio Patterson's game-high 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting, along with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Willie Anderson added 19 points, and Tyler Hudson finished with nine points and seven assists.
Paul Quinn shot 46.8% from the field (22 of 47) and connected on 10 of 24 from 3-point range (41.7%). Tougaloo shot 47.5% overall (28 of 59) and went 22 of 31 at the free-throw line.
The Tigers led 39-36 at halftime after efficient first-half shooting, but Tougaloo's free-throw accuracy and rebounding edge in the second half proved decisive.
Paul Quinn will look to regroup as conference play continues later this week.
