Johnson’s Double-Double Leads Paul Quinn Past Dallas Christian, 80–64
DALLAS — Mekhi Johnson posted a dominant double-double to lead Paul Quinn to an 80–64 win over Dallas Christian on Tuesday night at the Paul Quinn College Gym.
Johnson scored 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting and grabbed 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass, as the Tigers (4–6) used a 49-point second half to pull away after trailing 32–31 at halftime. His performance marked the most impactful outing of the night, driving a decisive momentum shift in the paint.
Paul Quinn outrebounded the Crusaders 54–39, including 17 offensive rebounds, and shot 86.4% from the free-throw line.
Rhasod Ballard added 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists for the Tigers, while Malcolm King scored 13 points, knocking down three 3-pointers. John Harrison had 10 points and three assists, and Isaiah McCallum contributed 12 points and two steals.
The Tigers shot 41.2% in the second half after struggling early from the perimeter, improving their 3-point percentage from 16.7% before the break to 38.5% after halftime.
Dallas Christian (4–7) was led by Carlas Canady, who scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Nick Lancit added 11 points, and Ayo Awoyomi chipped in 12 off the bench. The Crusaders shot just 33.9% from the field and 5-for-24 from 3-point range.
Paul Quinn sealed the win at the free-throw line, finishing 19-for-22.
The Tigers return to action later this week as they continue their nonconference slate.
